Being able to connect and build meaningful relationships is important to me. The five themes of talent based on the StrengthsQuest test themes in order were: restorative, relator, developer, empathy, and includer. Of the five strengths identified in my report, I would like for others to see that I have a relatable personality in me. I connect with the “relator” the most because I’m able to relate to people easily due to my personal journey and struggles. I was very empathetic toward a refugee man from Syria, who fled to Turkey to come to America,  spoke at my church’s Sunday School. He said that as a Muslim, “I never thought that I would go to a Christian Church in my life.” He came to my church because he was moved by the kindness of the Church and wanted to express his gratitude. My church had helped him since the first day he arrived in the U.S. I felt the same way because my church also helped my family establish a new home when we first arrived in Savannah, Georgia. I also felt empathetic when he was talking about how he had to make a choice between coming here and being separated from his sons or going back to Syrian to look for his sons. As refugees, my parents had to leave their families behind as well. Although I may not experience the same struggles or pain with other people, I can relate to them by listening to their stories. When I’m working with other people, I like to know their stories and relate to them. I also make sure there’s common ground so that no one feels left out or feel like they can’t voice their opinions. I value communication a lot because it’s the main key to being a relatable person, without proper communication about your story, no one can truly relate with each other. Communication is a big factor because when you’re able to relate to people, you can connect on a whole new level. I also want people to know that they’re never alone because there are so many people in the world who they can relate and express their feelings.
